Yrs 9 & 10 Author Visit - Sarah Naughton
Acclaimed author, Sarah Naughton, gave an inspirational talk to Years 9 & 10 on Tues 28 November. Sarah spoke candidly about her journey to become an author and had lots of advice for pupils including to "be prepared to take the pain if you are aiming to get into a competitive field" and "don't forget to celebrate your successes."
Sarah received 19 rejection letters for her first manuscript but she kept on trying, and her debut novel, The Hanged Man Rises, was shortlisted for the Costa Children's Award in 2016, which she described as "one of the best days of my life."
Sam 10Y and Nat 10S both commented: "We thought she was amazing and cool. She inspired us into following our dream career. She was very relatable and talked about her ups and downs and the realities of her job and life."
We are hoping Sarah can come back and deliver some workshops next year. Her latest book, You Better Watch Out, is a young adult Christmas-themed thriller and is available in the library. Sarah also writes Amazon best-selling psychological thrillers for adults.
